Mamie Laverock is making huge strides in her recovery.
Indeed, the When Calls the Heart actress, who was in critical condition after falling off a five-story balcony during her stay at a Vancouver medical center in May, finally returned home from the hospital.
“Dreams do come true,” Mamie’s family wrote on her official Facebook page Aug. 19. “Welcome home Mamie.”
To celebrate the milestone occasion, the Hallmark star’s family had a rainbow-themed table set up that included a balloon arch and a colorful cake. They also showed off a homemade sign that had a picture of the 20-year-old in the middle, complete with the phrase, “Home sweet home.”
Mamie’s family subsequently shared a video of her arriving at home in an ambulance, where she was strapped into a bed, but able to react to the family’s excitement from her spot in the back of the emergency vehicle once it was opened, exclaiming, “Oh nice!”
Amid Mamie’s recovery journey over the last few months, her family has been keeping fans up-to-date on her progress. In fact, the actress took her first steps following her accident earlier this month, in a video shared to her Facebook page Aug. 2.
In the video Mamie wears boots on both legs, as she is supported by two medical workers as she makes her way off the edge of her bed with the support of a walker.
“It feels really weird,” she admits as her loved ones cheer for her behind the camera. “It feels really wobbly.”
Even so, Mamie managed to take a few steps, to which someone filming her exclaimed, “Oh, my gosh. Feet moving, moving feet!”
Mamie’s progress comes over three months after an accidental fall off of a five-story balcony at a Vancouver hospital left her body “shattered,” per a statement shared by her mother Nicole Rockmann, stepfather Rob Compton and dad John Laverock.
“She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up,” the statement, shared to the family’s GoFundMe page in June, read. “We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26.”
At the time of her fall, Mamie was being treated for another “medical emergency.” After the incident, she was transported to a new trauma center—and her loved ones have said they plan to take legal action against St. Paul’s Hospital, where Mamie’s fall occurred.
“This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability,” Nicole told the Los Angeles Times in June. “We have a case. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she’s alive and that she’s fighting and that she’s strong. It’s unbelievable that she’s with us.”
